Wacko alert!

Report: Georgia gubernatorial candidate Neal Horsley arrested for threats against Elton John

elton500

A Georgia gubernatorial candidate was arrested Wednesday for making threats against singer Elton John, the Atlanta-Journal Consitution reports.

Neal Horsley was arrested in Carrollton, Georgia, according to local police.

John, who the paper calls a "part-time Atlantan," angered Horsley when he told Parade magazine that he thought Jesus was gay.

Horsley then penned the Internet diatribe on "Why Elton John Must Die," the paper said.

There is also a video posted on YouTube showing Horsley protesting outside John's
Peachtree Road condominium with a sign that reads "Elton John Must Die."

Media blew it? No surprise there!

Billy Joel Dismisses Rumors He Yanked Tour With Elton John : Rolling Stone
There was never a tour booked this summer! says Billy Joel, responding to Internet claims that he pulled the plug on a summer tour with Elton John. He continues, Obviously, this has the smell of a really juicy story: Why did they cancel? Did Billy and Elton have a fight? Whats going on? The truth is, theres nothing going on. I had made up my mind a long time ago that I wasnt going to work this year.

Super-intelligent Elton John thinks Jesus was gay

See now when he says things like this I don't think its very helpful...then again when he says stupid shit like this it's usually because he has an album coming out and he is trying to generate buzz, and he does have one coming up later this year we think.

This isn't the buzz I would be trying to create;
"I think Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems," John told the Sunday supplement. "On the cross, he forgave the people who crucified him. Jesus wanted us to be loving and forgiving. I don't know what makes people so cruel. Try being a gay woman in the Middle East -- you're as good as dead."

New Album Update

Elton John News: New Album Update - Near Completion

Basic tracks for Bernie and Elton’s new album with Leon Russell have been recently completed and the gang is about to start vocals and overdubs immediately. The trio has cut fifteen songs ranging from Stones like rockers, Country tinged ballads, Gospel and even a Sinatra like weepy similar to something torn from the grooves of “In the Wee Small Hours” As reported before it’s varied in scope and drenched in a rich tapestry of atmospherics. Don’t expect to hear the old EJ/BT sound; this is organic recording unlike anything you’ve heard from our duo before.
More here.  One question.  The trio?  Does that mean Elton, Leon and Bernie?  Will we be hearing some vocals from Bernie?

Will Elton cave to the pressure?

I hope not...
Pro-Palestinian group urges Elton John to cancel upcoming concert in Israel

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS (CP) – 1 hour ago

LONDON — A British academic group that supports Palestinian rights is urging singer Elton John to cancel a summer concert in Israel.

The British Committee for Universities of Palestine says in an open letter to John that it is wrong to perform in Israel because of alleged abuses committed during the Israeli military campaign in the Gaza Strip last year.

A spokesman for the singer did not respond to a request for comment Tuesday.

The committee's letter says John cannot be morally neutral in the conflict between the Palestinians and the Israelis.

John is scheduled to play at a Tel Aviv stadium on June 17. Other major stars including Paul McCartney and Madonna have played in Israel in recent years.

New Album Update

I am not sure how I feel about this.  I suppose any new music from Elton/Bernie is good news but with Leon Russell?  Maybe it will be this years Alison Krauss/Robert Plant collaboration;
New Album Update

Bernie and Elton will return to the studio in mid January to record a
collaborative album with the iconic Leon Russell. Russell who has
always been one of Elton’s musical heroes and influences when it comes
to piano styling will be featured on a 50/50 basis writing and
performing his own material for the project as well as writing with
both Bernie and Elton and performing and singing on the pairs own songs.

A marathon writing session in Los Angeles last November saw the trio
pen a vast wealth of material that ranges far and wide and covers many
musical genres.

The sessions will be overseen and produced by Henry (T-Bone) Burnett
whose work on roots based records over the last several years have
turned this multi-Grammy winning musician and producer into the
go-to-guy for unique projects.

We advise all not familiar with Leon or T-Bone to Google and learn more about these extraordinary individuals.

Don’t forget to keep checking for new postings by Bernie on his blog as
we’re hoping he’ll be reporting some of his own personal feelings on
this exciting new chapter in his storied career

Sad News: Guy Babylon has died

Guy Babylon, keyboard played in the E.J. band, died in L.A, Septembe

September 3, 2009
By the Editor/eltonjohn.com

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of Guy Babylon, keyboard played in the Elton John band. Guy died in Los Angeles on Wednesday,
September 2.

Elton, who is on holiday in Nice, France, said the following when he heard the news:

"I am devastated and heartbroken at the death of Guy Babylon. Guy played over 1000 shows with me, and we worked together on The Road To El Dorado, Aida, Billy Elliot, Lestat and Gnomeo and Juliet, as well as on countless albums. "He was one of the most brilliant musicians I ever knew, a true genius, a gentle angel - and I loved him so much. David and I send our deep condolences to Kathy, Max, Ben and Jessica, to Guy's parents, to Kathy's parents and to all his immediate loved ones."

Keyboardist/composer Guy Babylon was born on 20 December, 1956 in Maryland, USA. He moved to California in 1980, six months after graduating from the University of South Florida, and became a respected session musician in Los Angeles.

Over the next number of years, Guy composed music for radio, TV and cable shows,
doing demo work for bands and songwriters, and putting together a home studio in
North Hollywood. During that time he played with acts as diverse as Iron Butterfly and Tavares, and was a member of the band Ashton, which also included future Elton John bassist, Bob Birch.

Guy's career accelerated in March 1987 when he won Keyboard Magazine's Reader
Tape Contest with his entry, Babylon Bleu. Also in 1987, Guy co-wrote and performed on Siedah Garrett's K.I.S.S.I.N.G., which became a Number One dance
hit in the US.

It was also around this time that Guy first met Elton's guitarist and band leader, Davey Johnstone.

More than a year after playing keyboards on a side project of Davey's, Guy got a
call from the guitarist asking if he was interested in playing some live shows as Elton's second keyboardist, joining Fred Mandel. He said he'd be happy to.

Guy's first performance with Elton was for a benefit at the Century Plaza Hotel
in Los Angeles in July 1988, and his first world tour as part of the Elton John Band began two months later in Miami, Florida.

Guy became lead keyboardist on May 26, 1992, and has been the only synth man on
stage since the Walden Woods Benefit Concert in the fall of 1993.

Guy also created musical intros to some of the tour's opening numbers, including
Bennie And The Jets (1989), Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me, (1992) and Pinball
Wizard (1993), and reinterpreted the synthesizer intro to Funeral For A Friend
for the live shows.

Guy's first studio work with Elton was on the 1989 album Sleeping With The Past.
Other albums he performed on since then are The One, Duets, The Lion King, Made
In England, Love Songs, The Big Picture, Elton John & Tim Rice's Aida, Peachtree
Road, The Captain And The Kid and The Red Piano, as well as other one-off
projects.

Guy began writing orchestral arrangements for Elton's material with the song Man, from the album Made In England, and subsequently arranged all but one of the songs on Peachtree Road.

Guy won a Grammy Award in 2001 for his work arranging the stage musical Aida.

He served as the Musical Supervisor, Orchestrator, and Synth Programmer for the
musical Lestat, which opened on Broadway in April 2006, also worked on The Muse,
The Road To El Dorado, Billy Elliot The Musical and Gnomeo and Juliet.

Billy wins big...Elton loses best score

`Billy Elliot' wins 10 Tonys; `Carnage' best play - Yahoo! News

By MICHAEL KUCHWARA, AP Drama Writer Michael Kuchwara, Ap Drama Writer – 1 hr 43 mins ago

NEW YORK – Broadway's Tonys seemed a family affair this year, with an outpouring of generosity from winners to losers despite the domination of the evening by "Billy Eliot," which won 10 awards, and one actor bringing his wife to the stage to stand by him while he accepted his prize.

"I'd like to congratulate the writers of 'Next to Normal,'" said a gracious Elton John, standing in the middle of cast members and producers after his show, "Billy Eliot," won the best musical prize. "Thank you for accepting us on Broadway. ... We came here at a hard time economically. You opened your hearts and you opened your wallets."

In one of the evening's rare upsets, John lost the award for score to "Next to Normal."

Wednesday, June 03, 2009

So how will Elton's "Billy Elliot" do at the Tonys ?

Lets see, a musical about a young boy living in a coal mining town who is a member of a boxing club and secretly wants to be a ballet dancer? Hmmm.... It's a lock!

Elton will be on hand and performing as well...
Los Angeles Times, CA
Also set to appear is Elton John, who will perform with the ensemble from "Billy Elliot: The Musical," for which the singer is nominated for his score.

Elton flips on Prop 8

Probably not wanting to be the poster boy for the Prop 8 supporters, Elton now has a much different position on Prop 8 then he did at the end of last year;

"That's just awful," Elton John said in an interview on AccessHollywood.com. "When you see places like Iowa saying yes, there's now five states in America (where same-sex marriage is legal). California is supposed to be a progressive state. It defies logic to me. I'm very disappointed."

After all it was just November 2008 that USA Today had this from Elton;
NEW YORK — Elton John, accompanied by his longtime partner, David Furnish, had some choice words about California's Proposition 8, the ban on same-sex marriage that passed on Nov. 4.

In December 2005, John and Furnish tied the knot in a civil partnership ceremony in Windsor, England. But, clarified the singer, "We're not married. Let's get that right. We have a civil partnership. What is wrong with Proposition 8 is that they went for marriage. Marriage is going to put a lot of people off, the word marriage."

John and Furnish, and their two cocker spaniels, Marilyn and Arthur, were in town for Tuesday's annual benefit for the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

"I don't want to be married. I'm very happy with a civil partnership. If gay people want to get married, or get together, they should have a civil partnership," John says. "The word 'marriage,' I think, puts a lot of people off.

"You get the same equal rights that we do when we have a civil partnership. Heterosexual people get married. We can have civil partnerships."

Ben & Jerry’s relaunches limited Elton John flavor

21 May 2009

BURLINGTON, Vt. — After launching a one-week, limited edition flavor to recognize Elton John’s first trip to Vermont, and to raise money for the Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF), Ben & Jerry’s has relaunched its Goodbye Yellow Brick Road ice cream flavor.

Fans of Elton John’s music and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream sent hundreds of e-mails and many more phone calls to Ben & Jerry’s Vermont headquarters calling for the return of the popular flavor, which features chocolate ice cream, peanut butter cookie dough, butter brickle and white chocolate chunks.

A portion of the proceeds from the sales of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road will go to support the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

I believe it was called Goodbye Yellow Brickle Road...

"All Things Must Pass"

The Associated Press: Elton John no longer standing on Vegas; ends run
Elton John no longer standing on Vegas; ends run

By OSKAR GARCIA – 8 hours ago

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Rocket Man bid farewell to the Las Vegas Strip Wednesday after five years and 241 shows at Caesars Palace — but said it won't necessarily be a long, long time before he returns.

Wearing a bright red shirt that matched his piano and a coat emblazoned with "Las Vegas Pirates" on its back and "Captain Elton" on its right sleeve, Elton John rolled through his hits and reflected on his time at the Colosseum, a stage he famously shared with Celine Dion, Bette Midler and Cher.

"The ex-home of Celine Dion ... and now it's the ex-home of Elton John as well," the 62-year-old said. John said later in the show that he'd like to see Dion play the venue again.

"Who are you going to get to fill in our shoes now?" he said. "You've got Bette Midler, you've got Cher. It's gonna be the Village People next."

John initially signed on for 75 shows over three years when his run began in February 2004, but casino officials say the deal was expanded because of demand.

"I really have enjoyed every single moment of this engagement," the five-time Grammy winner said after opening the show with "Bennie and the Jets."

This is it!

Elton John's last show is Wednesday

April 21, 2009 11:20 PM

Acclaimed singer, songwriter and performer, Elton John takes final bow at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace for his final performance of his hit show "The Red Piano."

"The Red Piano" was originally booked for 75 shows over three years. Responding to overwhelming demand, the resort accelerated the number of shows presented each year, completing the original commitment in only 18 months. During this time Caesars Palace extended the agreement for an additional 166 shows for a final engagement total of 241.

His final show will be Wednesday, April 22.

Billy Joel edges out Elton John in double-header

Tue Mar 31, 2009 5:56pm EDT

By Erik Pedersen

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - On the surface, it always has seemed like a natural pairing: two of the rock era's most successful acts -- piano-based or otherwise -- dispensing hit after hit after hit.

But look a little deeper and the contrasts between Elton John and Billy Joel far outweigh the similarities. And their latest Face 2 Face arena show Saturday at Anaheim's Honda Center again hammered home those differences, even as the packed house cheered the pop feast.

The most obvious is the performing styles. Both men still have a command of their instrument, but their manic stage days are behind them. And that's fine; John turned 62 last Wednesday, and Joel hits 60 in May.

But latter-day John is all about the music, mostly sitting stoically at his piano; Joel's still about the show, his eighty-eight on a rotator so that every in-the-round patron got a good look. John prefers a quiet dignity onstage, only occasionally addressing the audience; Joel is demonstrative, offering some rimshot-worthy shtick.

Basically, John plays to the crowd; Joel feeds off it. So while Sir Elton will never cede the catalog crown, in his stage battle with the kid from Long Island, the latter continues to win the Face 2 Faceoffs.

John's voice for years was one of the most distinctive in rock. He sounded fine Saturday and still can sing with power, but that instantly recognizable bite is gone. He was at his best during the many slow songs, when his pipes weren't forced to keep pace with the music; "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting," for example, was a kitten compared to its beastly original.

So John's solo set was heavy with ballads, which certainly isn't a bad thing. Those irresistible sing-along choruses wrap around often moving verses on topics of joy or pain, cryptic or barefaced, while he piles on the marvelous melodies. Highlights included the mournful "Daniel" and a superbly elongated "Rocket Man."

Non-Elton: My favorite headline of the day...

Elvis Crespo Accused Of Mile-High Masturbation

Elvis Crespo was arrested in Miami.
March 26, 2009 11:37 AM ET
Merengue star Elvis Crespo is being investigated after a woman said she saw him performing a sex act on an airplane en route from Houston to Miami, according to Miami-Dade County police.

The Grammy winner was masturbating in view of other passengers Thursday, prompting the plane's captain to radio the Miami International Airport's air traffic control tower, the police report said.

Officers interviewed Crespo upon his arrival but did not arrest him. No charges have been filed.

When asked by police at the airport about the accusation, the 37-year-old Puerto Rican singer said: "I don't recall doing that."

EJ the DJ....

A term first coined when Elton would guest DJ at WNEW-FM 102.7 in New York City, Elton did a pseudo guest DJ stint for the Atlanta Journal Constitution in which he talked about the music he is currently listing to;

Celebrating Sir Elton’s 62nd With Fresh Spins | Peach Buzz

4:58 pm March 25, 2009, by Richard Eldredge

In honor of Sir Elton John’s 62nd birthday Wednesday, we opted to celebrate by assembling a new edition of EJ the DJ for Buzz readers.

So what exactly is EJ the DJ?

Well, whenever we have a conversation with the Peachtree Road resident, we ask John, arguably the world’s biggest music fan, to let us in on what he’s currently listening to.

We essentially snatched the idea from the pop star’s decades-long tradition of popping by radio stations here and across the pond to spin his favorite new artists.

As usual, John delivered a diverse batch of tunes and artists, a few of which can’t be instantly obtained in the U.S., even if a multitude of record shops still existed.

First up, Sir Elton is hooked on the single “Walking on a Dream” from Australia duo Empire of the Sun. The MGMT-esque pop pairing is a collaboration between The Sleepy Jackson’s Luke Steele and Pnau frontman Nick Littlemore. The single and remixes can currently be downloaded off iTunes. Empire’s full debut album is due stateside April 21.

“They’ve got a terrific sense of melody,” John told us. “I was just listening to it again this morning.”

Elton beats the Beatles...

Well...in this Harris Interactive poll for VisitBritain;
According to a recent survey by Harris Interactive for VisitBritain, the national tourist office for England, Scotland and Wales, one in three U.S. adults listens to British music regularly over any other non-U.S. musical artists. And which British musical artists do they listen to? Forty-eight percent said the Beatles, 49 percent said Elton John, and 41 percent said the Rolling Stones. Hard to believe that Elton John ranked ahead of the Beatles.

Elton John, Billy Joel play same old songs
Tue Mar 3, 2009 9:51pm EST

By Jeff Vrabel

JACKSONVILLE, Florida (Billboard) - Elton John and Billy Joel's latest tour kicked off to a packed house in Jacksonville, Fla., on Monday, operating under the simple business model: maximized reward, exceedingly minimized risk.

The three-plus-hour event was steeped in hits and nostalgia. The youngest song was the title track from Joel's last pop album, 1993's "River of Dreams."

After a timely spin through "Allentown," Joel's 1982 ballad of economic gloom, Joel said: "Speaking of unemployment, we're just happy you're keeping us in business. We're happy to have a job."

Joel's words rang true, but there wasn't much worry about that: They last toured together in 2003, when they grossed $45.8 million from just 24 shows, all sellouts. Top tickets prices for this tour are similar to those of the 2003 dates: around $175.

"Our ticket prices are the same as you'd see anyone else, but there's two of us," John said in a November 2008 appearance on "The View." "In this day and age, we hope to be getting people value for their money."

Many of the dates on the tour are configured in 360 degrees, significantly boosting capacity in those arenas.

As on previous treks, the two men performed together at the top of the show, with their individual bands for hour-long sets, and then reunited for encores that included John's "The Bitch Is Back," a Beatles medley, and Joel's "Piano Man."

The itinerary, which includes two summer performances at Chicago's Wrigley Field, is still under construction, and will be for some time yet. During his set, John said he was looking forward to "a couple of years" of dates. The tour next visits Tampa's St. Pete Times Forum on Thursday.

Second Spin: Live In Australia

A second look from the River Front Times...
Maybe it's just because this is my favorite Elton John song anyway, but it was one of the only tracks that didn't seem completely bloated and overblown with the 88-piece orchestra booming behind it.

Bennie is a crowning achievement?

I guess they meant Goodbye Yellow Brick Road...and I agree;

It’s Elton John’s crowning achievement, the very peak of his career. It’s also one of the best double albums ever released, and should no doubt be held at the same level of prestige as other LPs that utilize four sides of vinyl such as Blonde on Blonde from Bob Dylan.

Oh joy!

Elton John For Emenim album?

It’s claimed the wig haired star will appear on Relapse when it’s released this year…

Sir Elton John could feature on the new album by rapper Eminem- according to reports.

The Independent newspaper says the pair were spotted together in a Detroit studio late last year and may have recorded together. A source told them: “He stayed half a week… No one realised the significance, though the Detroit Free Press did mention that Elton had been in town.

“He and Em worked together before, when they did that duet at the Grammys, and had always said that they'd record something original together. Em has huge respect for Elton, and the feeling is mutual.”
Elton John is a long time fan of Shady despite accusations of homophobia leveled at the rapper.

The unlikely friends performed Stan at the Grammys way back in 2001.
The witness told the paper: “Elton really gets his music. Anything they produce will be total dope.

“Some of Em's biggest records have been collaborations with mainstream pop stars – Dido on Stan, for example – and they really don't come much bigger, or more mainstream, than the man with the red piano."

50 Cent and Dr Dre are already confirmed to appear on Relapse when it’s released this Spring.

Sen Coburn is no William Shatner

Senator Settles BCS Bet by Singing 'Rocket Man'

By BEN EVANS – 1 day ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — Forget all those inaugural concerts. The most pressing musical issue in the nation's capital is whether a stone-face senator from Oklahoma will hit the high notes in "Rocket Man" to pay off a college football bet.
Republican Sen. Tom Coburn is slated to serenade Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson of Florida with his very own rendition of Elton John's 1970s classic Wednesday afternoon.
Coburn owes Nelson because the Florida Gators defeated the Oklahoma Sooners 24-14 in last week's BCS title game. Nelson chose "Rocket Man" because he is a former astronaut who flew on the space shuttle Columbia in the 1980s.
If Oklahoma had won, Nelson would have had to sing the title song from the musical "Oklahoma!" It also happens to be the official state song.
Coburn spokesman John Hart said his boss won't wear a leisure suit for the performance but would be ready. He acknowledged the vocal range for "Rocket Man" is a "bit more expansive" than for the song Nelson would've had to sing.
Coburn's singing talents may be untested, but he does have a family pedigree. His daughter, Sarah Coburn, is a nationally acclaimed opera singer who has performed alongside the likes of Placido Domingo.
Coburn, a physician, is best known as a budget hawk who has given Senate Democrats headaches for years by using procedural tactics to block new spending measures.
Nelson spokesman Dan McLaughlin said the senator "is looking forward to settling the wager in good spirit and with a sense of humor."
It's not the first time Nelson has won an unusual football bet with a Senate colleague. Two years ago, he perched on one knee over Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio and counted as Brown tried to do 55 push-ups. The number equaled the total score of that season's BCS title game in which Florida beat Ohio State 44-14.
Brown only made it to 43, and Nelson finished the rest.

Joel, John Tour Tickets Selling Briskly

December 19, 2008 11:44 AM ET

In a positive sign for the 2009 touring season, sales for the upcoming Billy Joel/Elton John co-headlining tour are "through the roof," according to Wilson Howard, president, Live Nation Music Southeast, who calls the tour "a smash."

The configuration for the upcoming tour, which begins March 2 in Jacksonville, Fla., is 360 degrees, significantly boosting capacity in the arenas. Tickets range from $49.50-$175.

In addition to Jacksonville, the tour will play Tampa (March 5), Charlotte (7), Cincinnati (10), Atlanta (14), Tulsa, Okla. (17), Houston (19), San Antonio (21), Phoenix 26, and Anaheim (28, 30).

Live Nation is promoting most of the shows on the tour, and AEG Live will promote in Anaheim, which has almost sold out the second show.

Before the trek, Joel is set for a six-show run at the Seminole Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Fla., spread out between Jan. 2 and Feb. 8. John has international shows on tap through late January, to be followed by a two-week engagement with his Red Piano show at Las Vegas' Caesars Palace.

We've heard this before...I'll believe it when I see it

Elton John and Billy Joel may record together before tour

02:53 PM PT, Dec 16 2008Eltonjoel300

Elton John is looking to whip up a little something special for his upcoming Face 2 Face tour with fellow '70s piano man Billy Joel to make it more than just a greatest-hits outing. Returning to the
concert trail next spring for the first time in six years, John and Joel want to inject some new music into the mix.

"We're thinking about recording three songs together," John told Pop & Hiss on Tuesday. "Definitely not our own songs, or oldies, but we're interested in getting some people to write new songs for us. I've got Raphael Saadiq and Nile Rodgers working on something, so we're booking some time to go into the studio and record."

On their previous joint road trips in 1995, 2001-2002 and 2003, the Face 2 Face tour turned into one of the top 10 grossing tours of those years. The 2009 tour is scheduled to open March 2 in Jacksonville, Fla., and will include two Southland performances March 28 and 30 at
the Honda Center in Anaheim.

Elton loses libel case

A victory for irony as Elton John loses Guardian libel case | Media | The Guardian

Sir Elton John is well known for his quick temper and outrageous behaviour. A documentary of his life said it all - it was called, knowingly, Tantrums and Tiaras.

But a high court judge ruled yesterday that the singer's sense of humour failure over a satirical piece by a Guardian columnist was a tantrum too far.

In a groundbreaking libel decision, the judge said that "irony" and "teasing" do not amount to defamation. The ruling offers protection to writers of satirical articles clearly not meant to be taken seriously and was welcomed last night by media lawyers and journalists.

The Guardian was awarded costs and the singer, who brought the action, was refused leave to appeal by Mr Justice Tugendhat. John's legal team indicated that he might now seek leave to appeal.

John brought the action following the publication in Guardian Weekend magazine, in July this year, of a spoof diary written by Marina Hyde. "A peek at the diary of Sir Elton John" recorded his fictional thoughts about his annual White Tie and Tiara ball, which raises millions of pounds for the Elton John Aids Foundation.

Elton John Mulling Ronson Collaboration

December 03, 2008 01:37 PM ET
Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.

Elton John may enlist producer Mark Ronson to work on his next studio album, which is being penciled in for release in late 2009 by Universal.

"They like each other and know each other well. There's been lots and lots of conversation, but nothing is finalized yet," a source close to the artists tells Billboard.

The as-yet-untitled album will be the follow-up to 2006's "The Captain & The Kid," which has sold 151,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

As usual, John is busy with numerous projects. His collaboration with the Killers and the Pet Shop Boys' Neil Tennant, "Joseph, Better You Than Me," is available through the new (RED)WIRE digital service, and will see wide release on Dec. 16.

Meanwhile, John is the first guest on Elvis Costello's new show, "Spectacle," which premiered tonight (Dec. 3) on the Sundance Channel. And his New Year's Eve show at London's O2 Arena will be broadcast live on ITV1.

As previously reported, John and Billy Joel will reprise their successful co-headlining tour beginning March 2 in Jacksonville, Fla.

Elton clarifies his position on gay marriage

From the USA Today;
"What is wrong with Proposition 8 is that they went for marriage. Marriage is going to put a lot of people off, the word marriage." He went on to say, "I don't want to be married. I'm very happy with a civil partnership. If gay people want to get married, or get together, they should have a civil partnership...You get the same equal rights that we do when we have a civil partnership. Heterosexual people get married. We can have civil partnerships."

John Lennon once told Rolling Stone that when he heard Elton John singing "Your Song" — the 1970 breakthrough ballad that spotlighted John's voice and its union of rock & roll grandness with deep soul feeling — he thought, "Great, that's the first new thing that's happened since we happened." Only a few years earlier, John had claimed, "I can't really sing." Once he found his voice, though, he quickly turned out to have a dumbfounding stylistic range, unleashing his singsong falsetto and his ferocious hard-rock bellow. "He was mixing his falsetto and his chest voice to really fantastic effect in the Seventies," says Ben Folds. "There's that point in 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,' where he sings, 'on the grooound' — his voice is all over the shop. It's like jumping off a diving board when he did that."

News on Christmas single with Killers...

The Killers have confirmed they are releasing a Christmas single with Elton John.

The Las Vegas group previously said they were unsure whether the track would be ready for the festive season but are now preparing to head into the studio with the 'Rocket Man' singer to begin work on 'Better You Than Me' and say they expect to start work very soon.

Drummer Ronnie Vannucci revealed: "I have a sneaky suspicion Elton is just going to want to get us in a room and just do a straight recording."

The release will be the third seasonal single in a row that the 'Mr. Brightside' hitmakers have released.

Proceeds from download-only previous efforts 'Great Big Sled' and 'Don't Shoot Me Santa' were donated to charity.

The Killers release their next album 'Day and Age' on November 24.

Elton John writing AIDS musical for Ben Stiller
Elton John writing AIDS musical for Ben Stiller
15/10/2008 8:16:00 PM. | BANG Showbiz

Elton John | AAP

Sir Elton John is writing a “film musical” about a man who has AIDS.

The ‘Candle in the Wind’ singer is penning the show with Ben Stiller in mind for the lead role, and despite its seemingly bleak subject matter Elton insists it will be a comedy.

He said: “I’ve got to try and write a film musical for Ben Stiller. It’s about a guy on Broadway who is gay, has HIV and AIDS and has to go back and face his wife and his kids that he left. It’s very funny.

“The premise doesn’t sound funny, but it is.”

However, Elton – who has written the music for shows including ‘Billy Elliot’ and ‘Aida’ – says he generally isn’t a fan of musical theatre.

He is quoted by website MSNBC as saying: “I like some of the classic ones.

“‘West Side Story,’ for me, is the greatest musical ever written.

“But I don’t like forced fun. I’m more drawn to tragedy than, ‘Let’s all have a great time.’ And I’m not keen on the music in musicals sometimes.

“I’m quite fussy about it. I don’t really like them unless I’m involved in them, for some reason.”

Meanwhile, the 61-year-old performer has been enjoying time with friends in the South of France.

Elton reportedly invited 10 of his closest pals for a free two-week break in the exclusive region, before setting up a tab at designer clothing store Dolce and Gabbana where his guests spent a staggering 140,000 Euros.

Elton John: Money from tennis fund-raiser will target AIDS in South

By RICHARD L. ELDREDGE | Sunday, October 12, 2008, 05:45 PM

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

For Sir Elton John, hosting his 16th annual Advanta World Team Tennis Smash Hits event back in his U.S. hometown meant a great deal more to him than just the luxury of not having to board a plane to attend the “tennis chic” affair.

“All of the money raised here today will stay here in the Atlanta market and in Georgia,” John told the AJC Sunday morning before picking up his racket at the fund-raiser at Kennesaw State University Sunday morning. “Forty six percent of AIDS cases are now being reported in the South. We are distinctly aware of the problems here and the South will continue to be a priority for the foundation.”

John was joined by his co-host and old friend Billie Jean King and pro tennis pals Anna Kournikova, Andy Roddick and Martina Navratilova, along with rising players and Smash Hits first-timers Jesse Levine and local gal Melanie Oudin.

Elton news from Hercules

I missed this from Hercules. Some good news, especially dropping the rap collaboration (thank goodness!). I have a suggestion, release the Surround Sound mixes of the remaining classic years albums that Greg Penny completed over 2 years ago!

Elton wants more - 2009 and beyond
Thursday, September 25 2008

Hercules has learned that Elton has no plans to retire as his diary is full for the next five years!

Besides the plans for more "Face to Face" dates with Billy Joel in 2009 (as reported here earlier), Elton is also scheduled to be back in the studio for a new album next year. Meanwhile, Elton has dropped plans to release a rap collaboration album which he began working on.

While the "Red Piano" shows will end at the Collosseum at Caesar's Palace in early 2009, Elton has signed a new Red Piano deal to play another new venue in Vegas.

As next year will mark Elton's 40th year of recording, Mercury plans to release a box set of special duets, rock versions, and singles to mark that special occasion.

Finally, Mercury is currently also looking to release an enhanced version of "Madman Across the Water" following the success of this year's release of the "Elton John" and "Tumbleweed Connection" albums. There will be new demos on the "Madman Across The Water" release, although no release date has yet been mentioned.

Best Buy Oct. 28 will street The Red Piano on DVD, Blu-ray, CD and vinyl — the second exclusive distribution deal between the Minneapolis-based retail chain and pop artist Elton John.

Piano features 14 songs (including classics “Candle in the Wind,” “Believe” and “Rocket Man”) culled from John’s long-running show at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas. In 2004, Best Buy and the veteran John partnered for the multiple-disc CD and DVD release of Dream Ticket.

The two-disc DVD set ($24.99) and Blu-ray Disc set ($29.99, with two-CD live audio soundtrack) also feature a documentary about the making of Piano, including footage of John discussing his reasoning behind the show.

Other songs on the sets include: “Benny & The Jets,” “Philadelphia Freedom,” “Daniel,” “Answer In The Sky,” “Tiny Dancer,” “Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me,” “Pinball Wizard,” “The Bitch Is Back,” “I'm Still Standing,” “Saturdays Nights Alright For Fighting” and “Your Song.”

Sales of music video DVDs increased 18.6% to 27.5 million units in 2007, generating nearly $485 million in revenue, according to the Recording Industry Association of America.

Best Buy has cornered the market on DVD/CD/Blu-ray artist exclusives, including the Nov. 11 release The Police’s Live Certifiable, recorded in Buenos Aires last December; the Rolling Stones’ Four Flicks and Tom Petty’s Runnin' Down A Dream, among others.

Much of the art and photography included in Piano comes from David LaChappelle and features neon sculptures, pop art, baubles, balloons and images of John’s band.

The multidisc release is timed to coincide with John’s return engagements at Caesar’s Palace Oct. 22 to Nov. 9, and Feb. 3 to April 22, 2009.

“Our customers showed they were fans of Elton John by the success we had with the Dream Ticket DVD set,” said Gary Arnold, senior entertainment officer with Best Buy.

The Killers have laid the groundwork for their third consecutive Christmas single, and this time, they've enlisted Elton John to join in on the holiday cheer. According to NME.com, the Las Vegas outfit and the British "Rocket Man" have agreed to record a Christmas tune with the cheeky title, "Joseph, Better You Than Me."

"Joseph, Better You Than Me," or whatever the song ends up being called, will be the third holiday effort for the Killers, who released "A Great Big Sled" in 2006 and "Don't Shoot Me Santa" in 2007. Proceeds from the first two songs went to charity and the same is expected for the 2008 effort.

The Killers have previously said they'd eventually like to turn out enough Christmas tunes to make an album.

The Killers'newest non-themed album, Day And Age, comes out in November.

The band will fete the new disc with gig at London's Royal Albert Hall on November 3rd

Lily Allen And Elton John Fight At London Awards Ceremony
Lily Allen And Elton John Get Into Catfight At London's GQ Men Of The Year Awards

Pop icon reportedly called out his young co-host for drinking too much during the show.

By Jocelyn Vena

Lily Allen and Elton John got into a verbal scuffle while co-hosting Tuesday's GQ Men of the Year Awards at London's Royal Opera House, The Times of London reports.

The music veteran called out the 23-year-old pop singer for swearing and slurring her way through her dialogue as she drank champagne, according to the Times. "What, you are going to have another drink?" John asked.

That's when the real catfight got under way. "F--- off, Elton," Allen responded, while celebs like TV chef Gordon Ramsay, producer Mark Ronson, actress Thandie Newton and model Elle MacPherson looked on. "I'm 40 years younger than you. I have my whole life ahead of me."

John, 61, quipped, "I could still snort you under the table."

Allen then tried to play it off, saying, "I don't know what you are talking about."

She continued to steal the spotlight when Tony Bennett took the stage to accept the Inspiration Award. As John introduced the 82-year-old crooner, Allen announced, "I'll still f--- him."

Later in the night, Allen had some good news for the press. She revealed that her younger brother, actor Alfie Owen-Allen, is engaged to actress Jaime Winstone, introducing her as "my very soon-to-be sister-in-law."

At the magazine's annual ceremony, Led Zeppelin took home an Achievement Award for their comeback concert, Ronson received the Maverick Award, and Primal Scream were named Band of the Year.
